Brian Graiser
Brian Graiser has recently emerged on an international level as one the leading advocates of contemporary vibraphone and percussion repertoire. His energy and innovation is palpable, and as a result he has built a reputation as a creative madman in performance and composition alike.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Brian’s performances have taken him up and down the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, and China; some recent performances of note include the Toronto premiere of Christos Hatzis’s “Mirage?” for solo vibraphone/cloud gongs and string orchestra, Ney Rosauro’s “Concerto for Vibraphone” with the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble, and ongoing projects as a member of the Arasmas Percussion Group. Recently, He has commissioned works in whole or in part by composers such as Halim El-Dabh, John Serry, Christien LeDroit, and Peter Olsen.
Brian’s compositional activities are no less impressive; he has written works for the TorQ Percussion Quartet, University of Georgia Percussion Ensemble and Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, the University of Toronto Percussion Ensemble, and a number of artists across the U.S. and Canada. His current projects include a concerto for percussion quartet and wind ensemble (commissioned by TorQ), a multi-movement suite for solo harp, and a duet for saxophone and marimba to be premiered at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in Scotland.
Brian holds degrees from the University of Toronto (MM) and the University of Georgia (BMUS), having studied with Russell Hartenberger, Michael Colgrass, Beverley Johnston, John Rudolph, Christos Hatzis, Tony McCutchen, Leonard Ball, and Adrian Childs.
